Aliens Covenant
Synopsis
Colony Ship Covenant finds a beacon that leads them to what is left of the Prometheus team. However, the alien scourge is not gone and a new threat has emerged.
Review
What a beautiful location they used. It looks like somewhere in the Scandinavian or Scotland area as it is just filled with these outstanding green valleys. The Alien city honestly the worst part as you can tell it was just green screened over an area and doesn't have the depth of reality when looking at it in the large scale.
I am not sure what it is about the second movie is this series where they are so ambitious about certain things, but lack luster in others. AlienΒ³ and Alien Resurrection are the perfect example of this. This movie, like those have so much potential, but just fail to deliver on the things. This movie is the alien. There is a ton of wider-screen screen time for the alien. That means you get a lot of time to look at it, and it just looks weird. Granted it is an earlier generation to them, but the CGI just looks stuttered or halting at times.
The cast does a fantastic job. Fassbender is outstanding with his multiple characters using 2 different accents. Danny McBride is a great character. Honestly, in most things I think he is terrible, but I really like him as Tennessee. However, the best performance is Katherine Waterston. She is so good. From grief to heroine, you can see and feel her emotions so well. She reminds me of Elyse Myers who has some great content and a crazy story. However, they honestly look very simila, andd I was questioning whether it was her for a bit. It isn't for sure.
Where this movie really crashes like the Alien bombardment is the plot. There is so much information that is missing that when the movie ends you don't feel complete. You are more confused and less excited about how it is supposed to match up with Alien as it really is missing so much information. At the time, Alien Romulus wasn't a thing, so this was just an empty-headed mess with some crazy guesses and leaps to fill the story.
My Rating
I think that this movie and Prometheus were not tied to the future Aliens movies, you'd get so much more enjoyment out of them. This was an entertaining, scary, creeping, and beautiful movie, but the story relies so much more on other information and fill in the blanks that are not explained that it loses the luster of the other movies. It is a 7 for the creepiness and feel, but could have been so much more.
Parental Rating
There isn't as much language as other, but there is a decent amount. There is more blood that Prometheus, but it makes sense, and we also have good chest burster scene and a missing head so that's fun. There is one scene with nudity and what was going to lead to sex so you can imagine what is happening there. Overall, my mom is out and going nowhere near this movie. My dad might watch it on TV and based on the rules he would, but I don't think he would enjoy it. So rejected by Mom and approved by Dad.
