Army of the Dead (2021)
First off, I expected this movie to be full of the typical zombie things and full of cheezy/chringy lines. I was thinking a bad mash up of Zombieland and the terrible crowdfunded movie Range 15. I expected it to be so bad I wouldn’t be able to finish it, like Range 15. However, I was wrong.
Synopsis
Group of people go into zombie infested Las Vegas to rob a casino in an effort to escape the post zombie outbreak hell.
Review
First off, I expected this movie to be full of the typical zombie things and full of cheezy/chringy lines. I was thinking a bad mash up of Zombieland and the crowdfunded movie Range 15 from the guys of Black Rifle Coffee (Which is a TERRIBLE movie. They even say so.). I expected it to be so bad I wouldn’t be able to finish it, like Range 15. However, I was wrong. While the movie isn’t anything to write home about, but watch it. Good funny lines, great fight scenes, and a nice little twist to the typical zombies. Also, if you haven’t seen it, there is a Zombie Tiger! There are also some great one liners, some really deep thinking about the parts of life and some of the zombie death are glorious. It was entertaining. I stopped it late last night to clean up dinner and was excited to finish it today.
Dave Buatista does a pretty good job of being Drax the Destroyer, a WWE star, and a step-dad trying to make amends (Little sub plot that is forced in, but it makes the movie a bit more tangible and relatable than just a zombie killing movie).
My favorite part of this movie is cinematography. I don’t really look for it, but you can see in those tricks that forced you to get a sense of scale and depth. There is one scene in particular that where the focus is held still and the characters movie in and out and it is SOOO good.
My Rating
Having rewatched this movie recently to update this review, I still find it really enjoyable about 2 year later. Overall, this movie is a 6.5 to 7. Not terrible, but really enjoyable.
Parental Rating
My mom would HATE this movie, way to gory for her. My dad would really enjoy it: violence, light on language, and who doesn’t like to see a boob every now and then?
