Review
This movie did not age well. The Jack Ryan series just finished when I watched this and with that in mind I was showing my wife other Jack Ryan movies and this was the first one on the list because the scene of the sniper doing the stalk (While be wildly unrealistic in the specific sense of how close he got and they didn't know where he was) showed up on social media so I wanted to watch it.
Outside of that scene, most of the scenes are static and not anything beyond an assault on your eyes with information that can be provided in a thousand different ways. This was the 90s.
The acting is similarly singular. Willem Dafoe and Harrison Ford do a great job, but for sure it is the same role as a thousand others they have done. It isn't anything special.
The story is good though, could total see that happening back in the 80s/90s with the CIA being a little rouge around that time.
My Rating
I initially thought this was going to be a 7, however the more I wrote about it the more I felt it is a 6. It isn't anything special and I think it did the opposite for the book that they would have wanted. Granted I am about 30 years later so give them that.
Parental Rating
Mom is out. There isn't any family value and just a little derogatory to women. Dad has watch this and enjoys it. Language is minimal even for the time and violence is stupid for this time period.
