Brief Review

Brad Thor does a fantastic job of taking something currently culturally relevant and applying some shade to those events, but uses enough fiction to make it not completely true story. The gun fights, story structure, and overall entertainment are well done enough that I generally looked forward to the entire book.

Why I Read this book

I started reading this series, there are only a couple books that have a direct tie in to previous books, while working toward my first military deployment and while in country. Some of them fall flat (Looking at you Tiger Rising), but this one I was excited about.

In-Depth Review (Favorite Quotes)

So in general Brad Thor, who by the way has an awesome name, generally does a fantastic job of telling a great story. This review will be fairly typical for his books, not just this one specifically. He follows the same pattern every time, and in general the beginning and middle of the books are the best part of each book. While the ending is a nice finally, they are HIGHLY predictable.

This book does a much better job of telling a story that you can care about. The parallel stories told in the book tie together much better than other books and the relevance of the stories I think made it much better to read.

My biggest issue with the book is the ending and the fact that no one dies. While no one needs to be GRR Martin, Thor does kill anyone in the book that isn't a bad guy in the story. While he does kill people kind of "Off screen", no one dies. People get "grave wounds" but then don't die because of plot. It is frustrating.

This is a really good book. I really enjoyed the story and the current politics. I'd read it again. 8/10
