Review
I have never seen the Mel Gibson Mad Max films, I know the story thought, and I won't after this. It is a very stylistic driving movie that he some really cool action, but lacks in any real substance as far as the movie. I know that that last statement is a VERY hot take as this movie is beloved and people can do wonderful film analysis of the movie pointing out all the level of detail in the movie like those of "The Deep Dive" YouTube channel, but I'll explain my opinion below.
My issues with the movie are this. Max, played by Tom Hardy is a great singularly focused individual looking to survive. That is it thought. He is just looking to survive in this movie. He is the agent of support and change, not the main character that I think he should be speaking the movie is named after him. Charlize Theron as Furiousa is great as well as far as a character, but again, no growth. She is a singularly focused individual looking to return to her home and help others get there. That is an admirable goal for sure, but nothing ground breaking.
What honestly makes this movie good is the sets. I am not talking about the endless desert, but the cars, the half-boys, the brothers, and all the characters involved. For instance, there is a big truck that has multiple drummer and a guitarist that is connected via a bungy cord type thing and he is just jamming out without a care in the world. It is just an awesome bit of set.
The other thing that is really cool is the combat. I mean having to divine a whole combat system and mythology about how to fight in vehicle which is the main way of delivering or taking material as there is nothing in the world outside of a few bases and so just watching what they came up with is cool.
My Rating
This movie is the desert race series of Fast and Furious. Nothing of real value in the story other than cool combat and setting. The acting is really subpar and is a kind of misnomer for the individuals involved. There are some great moments of acting, but it is just very up and down. I enjoyed watching it, but it is too long to be a good film. It is a 7 at its best.
Parental Rating
Mom is out. There is no family friendly setting and it is just really weird with a lot of nipple clamps lol. Dad would probably watch it as the language is limited and so is the violence. I am pretty sure my Dad would want to watch this so I will say approved for Dad and rejected for Mom.
