Map of Bones
This book has an interesting take on the history of the Catholic church that I feel could be plausible. I am not saying that there is a secret cabal of people in the church trying to become immortal, but I will say that priest are human like everyone else.
The Book in 1 Sentence
Science + religion = weird history
Brief Review
This book has an interesting take on the history of the Catholic church that I feel could be plausible. I am not saying that there is a secret cabal of people in the church trying to become immortal, but I will say that priest are human like everyone else and so of course there are sinners attempting to take over the world.
Full of action and intrigue, this book, this entire series is worth reading just for the fringe information that you will get (This book would mostly be the book of Thomas and church of Thomas).
Why I Read this book
Years ago, I read a book like 7 books down the line and really enjoyed it so I have had this series in my sights for a while to understand what is going on.
In-Depth Review
I think this book (series) does a great job of presenting real science, history, etc. in a way that make the reader want to know more, "Hello Google". The information is 100% natural to the book and doesn't take you away from what is happening.
What does take you away from what is going on is the constant perspective changes or a forced love interest. That I think was my biggest annoyance with this book was the constant cliché of "There is something about him/her," "Her eyes just did X," and so forth. Also, the gun fighting was short lived and unrealistic at points. I wish I had marked more in the book so I could recall it, but I am working on that for further books.
The characters for the most part are consistent and believable and I never felt like they were out of position or unrealistic to the setup we were given. The exception to this is one of the final scenes where the character makes a decision while "right" in the eyes of the book, but is completely against human nature which is what this dude has CONSTANTLY followed.
Rating
I am giving this book a 6 because honestly I finished it like a month ago and I remember it being good, but annoyed at times. It wasn't bad and I still want to read the rest of the series, I just feel like there could/should have been better. My routine for writing reviews is very non-existent right now.
