The Book in 1 Sentence

Learn why the phrase "a jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one" is a true standard to the expectation of most high performing individuals in life.

Brief Review

Reading this book was such a inspiration about not being one of the kids/adults that has been on "The perfect path" since 1st grade to do X. Presenting evidence about studies that show that is a quicker "catch up" to those tiger kids/adults. David Epstein does a fantastic job of providing examples of opposing styles that really make you learn to be you.

Why I Read this book

This book was recommended to me by my supervisor during one of our weekly sessions and discussing how I should/can move forward.

In-Depth Review (Favorite Quotes)

So this book is 100% a case study in my career. What I mean by that is in the later half of my life in Cyber Security I have worked in each major domain. I have never stayed in the same field for a long time since the Military makes you change positions every couple of years. Because of this frequent changing, I have a very diverse background of information that really does inform a lot of my decision making and analytical work in my day to day. This book is the explanation for that. The introduction of outside knowledge has made me think of actions that are not straight forward to those who are hyper focused.

The information about the science of both sides is such a fantastic presentation of the information. The way he explains the science in a basic form that allows anyone to understand it. I really appreciated it as a way to explain to those that I mentor that they are not out of bounds yet.

How my life / behavior / thoughts / ideas have changed as a result of reading the book.

The mentorship is the biggest thing. Most of the individuals are making career changes, leaving school, leaving the military and haven't spent their entire time focusing on of path. This book helps people to see that they are not out of the game yet. This is the biggest change. It is one of the first books I recommend people read to help them realize that they knowledge in another field or what they have learned in school can help them to reach a different conclusion others can't see.

Rating

This book is a must read for anyone. It is a 9 that will help everyone spread there wings to try and enjoy different hobbies. Maybe more people should play DnD.
